Durham, N.H., January 26, 2017 -- The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), an independent provider of broad-based testing and standards conformance services for the networking industry, is proud to announce they will be sponsoring the upcoming Automotive Ethernet Congress from February 7-8, 2017 in Munich, Germany. This two day event will cover topics relating to the use of Ethernet in automotive, specifically how the use of Ethernet will fundamentally alter the future of vehicle architecture, the importance of data security for vehicle networking, and more.
This is the third year the Automotive Ethernet Congress has met in Munich, showcasing the current state of Ethernet in the Automotive networking industry. The AEC program consists of more than 19 lectures and four technically intensive workshops. Additionally, UNH-IOL representatives Bob Noseworthy, Chief Engineer, and Peter Scruton, Embedded Systems Technologies Manager, will speak during the Protocols and Stack session on “Empirical Analysis, Status, and Outlook of Ethernet Pre-emption for In-Car Communication.”
The UNH-IOL has been supporting the adoption and standardization of in-car Ethernet technologies for several years by contributing to various standards bodies and industry alliances, including IEEE, Avnu Alliance and OPEN Alliance, as well as hosting test events. Such events include a 100BASE-T1 PMA Electrical Conformance plugfest in December 2016, which included 5 test & measurement vendors and 5 chip manufacturers in attendance, as well as hosting an Avnu Alliance plugfest in August 2016.
“Standards-based precise time, guaranteed bandwidth, and guaranteed worst-case latency in a converged Ethernet network is a game-changer to many industries,” said Bob Noseworthy, Chief Engineer, UNH-IOL. “Through UNH-IOL’s industry-specific Automotive Networking Testing Service, companies can be at the forefront and drive the technology forward by validating their solutions with a full suite of testing services, which will allow adoption of Automotive Ethernet to take off.”
For several years the UNH-IOL has been an industry recognized test house for Automotive Ethernet conformance testing. Working closely with the OPEN Alliance developing test plans for BroadR-Reach PMA, PCS, and PHY Control electrical conformance, and now offering the same test services for IEEE 802.3bw 100BASE-T1 products. And is currently developing testing services for IEEE 802.3bp 1000BASE-T1 in conjunction with OPEN Alliance TC12.
The UNH-IOL recently announced the launch of the Automotive Networking Testing Service, which is focused on protocol testing for Automotive Ethernet, network capabilities, and test cases. Test cases developed in this effort are available to certifying bodies, such as the Avnu Alliance, the Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) certification body of which the UNH-IOL is a recognized certification test facility. Capabilities and tests developed in this group do not guarantee certification by any other body. Members have an equal voice in directing new development activities of the group. Initial efforts are focusing on 802.1Qci Ingress Policing and time-aware shaping for 802.1Qbv Scheduled Traffic.
By providing a high quality test plan, leveraging partnerships with industry leading test tool providers, providing in-house test automation tools, and access to test beds for Automotive Ethernet Networks, UNH-IOL enables businesses to improve products and accelerate market readiness.
