DURHAM, N.H., February 28, 2018 -- The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), an independent provider of broad-based testing and standards conformance services for the networking industry, announced today they have successfully tested and passed four products, the Edgecore 5712, 6712, and 7712 100G, and the Lenovo G8272 10/40G Ethernet Switches, for the Open Networking Install Environment (ONIE) Approved Logo list, which provides these companies with the ONIE Tested Logo. ONIE allows a network operating system (NOS) to be installed on any white-box switch hardware that supports the technology. The Tested Logo confirms conformance to the open source initiative enabling a network switch ecosystem that provides end users a choice of network operating systems. The ONIE Tested Logo and ONIE Tested Integrators List validates the interoperability of products.
ONIE also enables a bare metal network switch ecosystem where end users have a choice among different network operating systems. ONIE supports installation from a variety of sources over a network using IPv4, IPv6 and tFTP, or even locally from a USB flash drive. his technology eases data center administration and gives end users a broader choice in software and hardware combinations.

ONIE is an open source initiative to define an open "install environment" for bare metal network switches, such as existing ODM switches and the upcoming OCP Network Switch design. The UNH-IOL announced their ONIE Testing Services earlier this year and is available as a part of their Open Networking Test Services or individually as a pay-per-test service.
