G.fast Speeds Toward Certification

The University of New Hampshire InterOperabilty Laboratory (UNH-IOL) said it’s making progress with a certification program tied to G.fast, an emerging standardthat will bring gigabit speeds to DSL networks and help telcos better compete against cable’s DOCSIS platform.

At this week’s Broadband World Forum in London, UNH-IOL said it will demo G.fast interoperability to deliver 4K. Additionally, it announced a seventh G.fast “plugfest” set for November.

UNH-IOL Hosts VDSL2 Vectoring Plugfest

The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) hosted a plugfest earlier this month for vendors to test their latest VDSL2 vectoring equipment and software. The series of VDSL2 Vectoring Plugfest, organized by the Broadband Forum, have enabled participants to develop interoperable and deployable solutions. G.fast Promises Faster DSL Over Existing Wiring

G.fast—the latest and fastest version of DSL—may eventually deliver a super-fast upgrade in speed to DSL users. Late last year, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) approved this new version of the digital-subscriber-line (DSL) standard for Internet access over the plain old telephone service (POTS), also known as the public switched telephone network (PSTN). New G.fast standard could speed up your broadband to more than 500Mbps

The ITU has formally approved the G.fast standard that will deliver broadband with speeds of up to 1Gbps over the existing copper wires between premises and fibre-equipped street cabinets.
